raco is widely considered one of the most extreme custom aircraft ever built, a “HyperSTOL” beast engineered by Mike Patey to dominate the backcountry. By mating a rugged PZL-104 Wilga frame with a massive 680 hp Pratt & Whitney turboprop engine, Patey created a machine that could climb at 4,000 feet per minute and take off in less than 100 feet. While the original aircraft was lost in a high-profile crosswind accident in 2019, its legacy of radical engineering lives on through Patey’s subsequent builds and a new production version currently in development for the modern aviation market.
